At 10pm of June 27, 2017, giant panda Cheng Da gave birth to a pair of boy and girl twins at Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. The elder one is female, 128.2g, while the younger one is male, 160.2g. They cried loudly when they were born, which indicated they are healthy. At present both the mother and the babies are in good condition. This is the second pair of twins born in 2017 at Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding after giant panda Zhi Zhi gave birth to her babies on April 24, and they are also the first pair of boy and girl twins born in 2017 at the panda base.

Cheng Da was born on August 24, 2011, who herself is the elder sister of a pair of boy and girl twins. Her younger brother is Cheng Xiao and her mother is Cheng Ji who is well-known for her forceful personality. According to keepers, this is the first time for Cheng Da to be a mother. A novice although she is, she is very kind and takes good care of her babies. Two babies can get enough breast milk.
