Coming the Big Face Sisters Mei Lun and Mei Huan

2017-11-15

Presumably a lot of people have noted the news such as Panda Returnees Are Good at English but Bad at Sichuan Dialect, Panda Returnees Can Not Get Used to “Sichuan Cuisine”. The above-mentioned returnees are just the heroines of this article-the big face sisters Mei Lun and Mei Huan.

Perhaps some people are not familiar with them. It doesn’t matter. Let's first retrospect their growth process.

Mei Lun and Mei Huan were born on Jul. 15, 2013 in Atlanta Zoo of the United States, who were the fourth and fifth babies of Lun Lun and Yang Yang, the pandas living in America. They are also the first twin pandas born and surviving in the United States.

On their 100th day, the zoo announced the most popular ones from five groups of candidate names, Mei Lun and Mei Huan, and made a retrospect of their growth.

We get our names!

Since then, Mei Lun and Mei Huan spent three happy years in Atlanta.

When the first snow came in the winter of 2013, dad, mom, brothers and sisters were playing outside, but Mei Lun and Mei Huan had to stay in the room since they were so little. However, the panda keepers considerately took a barrel of snow for them to play. This is the first time the two little girls saw the snow.

On their 1st birthday, the panda keepers prepared two birthday cakes for Mei Lun and Mei Huan and they accepted this “luxury gift” without hesitation.

At their 2nd birthday party, Mei Lun and Mei Huan seemed more interested in the gifts than the cakes. Their naughty behaviors made the visitors coming for the party cannot help laughing.

As the “honey” of the American people, the twins also received the well-prepared gifts on Valentine’s Day. The curious sisters were so fond of the gifts.

The 3rd birthday is the last one they had in the United States. Many fans came to celebrate for them on that day.

In addition to the care of the mother panda and panda keepers, the sisters are the best companion of each other in their growth.

Share the bamboo

On Nov. 5, 2016, they returned to their hometown Chengdu and received routine quarantine isolation. In the beginning, the sisters were obviously not adapting to the new environment. They didn’t like to eat the bamboo, apple and steam bread of the hometown, and could not understand the panda keepers' instructions and so on. Through the continuous efforts of panda keepers and other staff, Mei Lun and Mei Huan have started to develop affections with them and gradually accepted the food of hometown. Especially the younger sister Mei Huan, she likes the panda steamed bread very much and can have about 600g everyday (the normal amount for panda at her age) and gained weight of 2kg. In addition, they can also response to the simple instructions of the panda keepers.

Mei Lun, “Hmm, the panda keeper didn’t lie to me, the little apple in my hometown is really yummy! ”

Mei Huan, "The panda keeper said the bamboo could make me stronger!"

Mei Lun, Mei Huan, “Can you tell who I am?”

We are happy to see the sisters adapt to the new environment so smoothly, wishing them happy forever in their hometown.
